Consistency with the City's Mission and Priorities
Substance use and mental health disorders have been, and continue to be, two of many social issues confronting the City of Richmond.
Underlying crime, homelessness, and many other societal problems are all common to persons suffering from these diseases.
The City of Richmond's mission is "To achieve a sustained long term turnaround in the quality of life for City of Richmond residents through a community engaged in breaking the negative cycles that detract from a safe and healthy city." Paralleling and in support of the City's mission, Rubicon's mission is to provide quality, comprehensive treatment, recovery support services, and advocacy for individuals living with, and families affected by, the disease of addiction and mental illness.
The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority and Rubicon have partnered contractually to develop and provide a variety of substance abuse and mental health services. Three years ago, Region IV's Consortium of Community Service Boards with RBHA as the agent, started the Crisis Stabilization Program, a first in the State of Virginia. With a primary focus of providing sub acute crisis intervention services to clients experiencing psychiatric crisis, this Unit provides an invaluable treatment component that resulted in millions of dollars in savings to the City and the Commonwealth.
A significant number of crimes in the City can be directly attributed to the involvement of drugs. The City's war on crime has to include substance abuse and mental health treatment; Rubicon is the leader on that front.
Since 1970, Rubicon, Inc., a nonprofit organization, has provided comprehensive treatment for substance use disorders and more recently mental health treatment to residents of the City of Richmond and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each year we treat over 1,300 men, women, and mothers with children living with these disorders. They come from all walks of life and all sectors of our society.
As a licensed provider of the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services, Rubicon provides residential, detoxification, crisis stabilization and outpatient treatment services; Rubicon is also certified by the Department of Corrections to provide residential and transitional services.
A skilled professional staff of ninety-five offers our residents the professional care and expertise necessary to direct each of our treatment modalities and to comply with state and national standards. In addition to our licensed staff, Rubicon contracts with medical and psychiatric professionals to provide daily treatment for our residents.
Rubicon is a multi service treatment agency that provides its consumers individualized therapy and concentrated care within a "family" milieu. A variety of treatment options are available based on the individualized needs of program consumers.
